On Easter morning in a small Sicilian village, the recently discharged Turiddu is shaken by the fact that his former lover Lola has now become Alfio's wife. Turiddu remains unable to forget Lola and is drawn to her, heightening the tension in the village atmosphere. Meanwhile, Santuzza, who loves Turiddu, senses him drifting away and falls into deep anxiety. Santuzza clings to Turiddu, but he shows a cold attitude, unable to reciprocate her love. In the meantime, Lola seduces Turiddu again, complicating their relationships further. Overwhelmed by jealousy and despair, Santuzza eventually reveals their affair to Alfio. Alfio takes the matter between his wife Lola and Turiddu as an insult and challenges Turiddu to a duel. Turiddu bids farewell to his mother Lucia and heads toward the confrontation with Alfio. Lucia senses her son's ominous fate, but the situation has already spiraled irreversibly. Finally, a scream hinting at Turiddu's death echoes, bringing the opera to a tragic end born of love and jealousy.
This production divides the long, wide stage into six small spaces, cross-cutting scenes and situations like cinematic shots. It is also rendered in a cold, austere black-and-white monotone, strongly highlighting the psychological conflicts between the characters.
